Team Mercury chasing 'three-peat' in AFC contest
Mercury Marine is proud to once again be a major sponsor of the Australian Fishing Championship (AFC) which brings together the best anglers in the country for a televised head-to-head show down.
Team Mercury is also looking for its third straight win, having taken the crown in '07 and '08.
However, nothing is certain this year with the AFC showcasing a number of major changes to the competition format.
Teams have been increased in size from three to six fishers, so long-time Team Mercury members Matthew Mott and Darren "Dizzy" Borg have been joined by Ben Godfrey, David Green, Al McNamara and Matt Coleman.
The teammates will pair up, with one pair for each of the three fish species - Bream, Bass and Barra.
OptiMax advantage
Despite the changes, Team Mercury will still have an edge on the water. Their Nitro Z7 boat will once again be powered by a Mercury OptiMax 150hp.
OptiMax has the direct injection technology that the professionals trust and which provides exactly what they need - unsurpassed acceleration, top speeds, best in class fuel economy and leading corrosion resistance.
"The team can depend on getting to the most likely fishing holes first. The OptiMax's unbeaten acceleration is a massive benefit," said Nicholas Webb, Mercury's Director of Outboard Product (Australia, New Zealand and Pacific).
"Being able to get that with fuel efficiency and low emissions - it's a triple treat, really."
When they have found the fish, the Team Mercury boys will then be able to call on their
MotorGuide "Tour Edition" trolling motor, which thrives under the harsh conditions.
This year the AFC competition is divided into six rounds - two Bream, two Bass and two Barra - with a Celebrity Episode and a highlights show. All episodes will go to air on

Channel 10 in metro areas and Southern Cross regionally, from December '09.
